5 Mama Hacks for Surviving the NICU

5 Mama Hacks for Surviving the NICU

Nobody prepares you for the NICU. One moment you're imagining your baby's homecoming, and the next you're learning what a pulse oximeter is at 2 AM. If you're in the thick of it right now — first, breathe. You are doing an incredible thing just by showing up every single day.

Here are five hacks from mamas who've been there:

1. Pack a "NICU Bag" just for you. Snacks, a phone charger, a cozy blanket, lip balm, and a journal. You'll be there for hours. Comfort matters.

2. Take photos every day. Even on the hard days. You'll want to look back and see how far your little one has come. Progress is real, even when it's slow.

3. Ask for a care conference early. Don't wait for information to come to you — request a scheduled sit-down with the medical team so you can ask all your questions at once.

4. Accept every meal train offer. Seriously. Say yes. Your only job right now is to be present for your baby and take care of yourself.

5. Find your people. Most NICUs have parent support groups or can connect you with other NICU families. You don't have to do this alone — and you shouldn't have to.

You are stronger than you know, mama. One day at a time. 💫
